BARBARA MEYER TO BE HONORED AT TUESDAY TRIBUTE

Barbara Meyer

Barbara MeyerYes We Can! Exhibition Artist Barbara Meyer (81) will be honored at a Tuesday Tribute on April 25, 2-3:30 p.m. at Creative 360. Tuesday Tributes are hosted by Creative 360’s former Executive Director Carol Speltz, and offer an opportunity to hear from an array of fascinating octogenarians about their lives, their creative process, and their adventures. There will be lively conversation, tea, treats, and time for Q&A. Cost is $5.

Barbara Meyer was always good at art. She could draw fairly realistically from the age of five, but always longed for instruction throughout school. In college, she finally began receiving the intensive training she craved and received her B.S. from Manchester College. She then joyously taught the skills she so longed for as a child at eight elementary schools in Indiana.

Meyer married Wendell, and then they moved to Midland where he worked for The Dow Chemical Company. She did custom commissions while raising their children. “It was hard, exciting and satisfying to execute ideas people had in their minds,” she said.

Meyer taught in the humanities department at Northwood University for 18 years, and when she retired, returned to serious painting, concentrating on landscapes. You will have a chance to view some of her work during the tribute.

Creative 360’s Yes We Can! 2017 events are sponsored by The Barstow Foundation, Gavin & Associates, NADA Northwood University, Space Studios and Balanced Living Chiropractic. This year’s program included an art exhibition, six Tuesday Tributes, eight luncheon soirees, and a tea to honor mothers. The final luncheons are April 28 honoring Ced Currin (86) and May 5 honoring Edward and Elyse Rogers. The Mother’s Tea is Sunday, April 30.

Yes We Can! is an innovative program designed to honor and celebrate artists, scholars, scientists and community leaders who are 80 and above from across the Great Lakes Bay Region in a way that respects their knowledge and taps into their legacy of creativity. People of all ages enjoy the opportunity to engage with this dynamic group through their art, artist talks, luncheon soirees and more.
