On Sunday, September 25 from 1-4:00 p.m. Creative 360 will, once again, host an International Day of Peace Family Celebration. Everyone in the community is invited to spend a fun, informative and meaningful Sunday afternoon focused on peace. The day’s events are sponsored by Choosing a Culture of Understanding; Donald Edward LeBlanc, DDS, PC; Midland Chapter – Nonviolent Peaceforce and the Helen M. Casey Center for Nonviolence
The program begins at 1:00 p.m. in the Creative 360 gallery with the Jubileaus Hand Bell Ensemble from Trinity Lutheran Church who will play a number of songs related to peace. An eye-opening presentation about the myths and realities of life in Palestine by Interfaith Peace-Builder Johannah Jozwiak will follow. Later, Randi Kawakita and Jeanne Schaller will lead a role play designed to increase compassion and understanding.
There will also be a number of activities outdoors in the garden area (weather permitting). Donna and Jim Murphy will treat guests with Native American flute and harp music, while children and their families will enjoy decorating peace poles, creating beaded peace bracelets, folding origami peace cranes and helping create mosaic garden art for Creative 360’s wellness pathway.
The day’s activities will be punctuated with the reading of both original and well-known peace poems. Bobbi Lucas will close the event by leading a Planetary Peace Dance.
The International Day of Peace provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a culture of peace. It is observed around the world each year on (or around) September 21 since established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution 36/37.
