ARTFEST 55 CALL FOR ART
2019 Creative 360 is seeking original, imaginative art to be read, performed and displayed as part of the 10th annual Artfest 55 festival celebrating the creativity of Michigan residents who are age 55 and over. The festival is a juried art exhibit, a talent show and a creative writing competition – all with prizes. Jurists for each category will be announced soon. The exhibition opening, performances, written word competition and award announcements all take place in the Creative 360 gallery Friday, June 21 from 6:30 to 9:00 pm. There is no charge to attend. Donations are welcome.
If you are between the ages of 55 and 105, it’s time to pick up your paint brushes, tune the strings on your guitar or put pen to paper. If you plan to enter in any of the categories below, call 989-837-1885 to request entry forms or find them below by clicking on blue highlighted text.
Call to Visual Artists: This year, you may enter any work (2D, 3D or photography) you feel passionate about; works you love. Your 2D art work and photography must be ready to hang and all should be received for adjudication between Monday, June 10 and Wednesday, June 12. Artists will be notified of acceptance into the show by Tuesday, June 18. Prizes in this category include: $250 Best in Show; $100 Best 2D; $100 Best 3D; $100 Best Photography. The works will be on exhibit through August 18.
Call to Writers: Original poems, short stories and memoir for the Sentimental Journeys writing contest must be received by noon Friday, June 7 via email (strongly preferred) or you may drop off or mail a paper copy is email is not available. Works must not have been previously published for the public. Luana Russell and Sarah Yoder are jurists. A $100 prize will be awarded to the first place winner in each of the following categories:
Memoir: Non-fiction recalling memories and experiences from your past – 1250 words or less.
Short story: Writing that is fictional, created from the imagination of the writer – 1250 words or less.
Poetry: Can be rhyming or not. Any length is accepted.
Call to Performers: The Senior Moments talent competition will take place at Creative 360 on June 21, and will be judged by a panel of three judges. Winners will be announced after all performances during Artfest 55. Applications must be received by Thursday, June 13. Prizes of gift certificates or packages will be awarded to the first, second, and third place winners.
